The Face Magazine 1988 - Jean Paul Gaultier
The Face closed out 1988 with Jean Paul Gaultier on the cover, shot by Jean-Baptiste Mondino for the December issue, Volume 2 Number 3. One contributor later named this among the magazine's most memorable covers, pointing to the way colour and symmetry in Mondino's image captured the spirit of the period.
Inside, the issue carries an eleven page editorial by Eddie Monsoon that includes two pages featuring Helena Christensen, styled with pieces by John Galliano and Stephen Jones, alongside seven pages on Bono and U2 with styling by Judy Blame, and two further pages dedicated to Gaultier himself, spanning music and fashion in the way The Face was known for rather than treating either as a sideline to the other. The issue also carries an Expo feature on Jenny Holzer, whose Survival and Truisms texts appeared as stickers randomly inserted into UK copies of this run.
